The Equi Temple is an equestrian complex that serves multiple functions - sport, technological, recreational, and representative. The design, reminiscent of an ancient monument-temple, features a rectangular parallelepiped structure topped with a traditional gable roof. The smooth lines of the constructional elements, made from glued wood, define the basic rhythmic concept of the interior space. The glazed facades integrate the internal and external spaces, creating a sense of unity with nature.
The design's unique properties lie in its environmental friendliness. Wood, chosen for its eco-friendly characteristics, is used for all structural elements, facades, and details. The only use of concrete is in the foundations and exterior staircases, in compliance with fire safety regulations. The combination of traditional material with original lines and details creates a unique and memorable image.
The Equi Temple is designed for year-round use, catering to both professional equestrians and hobbyists. The balcony is designed for judges and spectators, while the horses' passage from the stables is organized on the first floor. Both levels are equipped with separate evacuation exits, eliminating the intersection of streams of horses, sportsmen, and guests.
The project, which started in October 2017 in Moscow, Russia, was completed in January 2021. The design process involved a thorough study of the landscape and climatic conditions of the region, leading to the creation of a building that achieves greater energy efficiency in a complex structure. The selected solutions allow for the observation of optimal humidity and temperature conditions in the Riding arena for equestrian sports, even in winter.
The Equi Temple, with its expressive architectural and spatial image, operates within technological limitations. The rhythm, drawing of details, and silhouette of the massive wooden structures create an impression of a voluminous and majestic structure. The color scheme, as close to natural as possible, is limited to shades of golden wood, with emerald-gray roof slopes echoing the surrounding greenery. The interiors continue the theme of wooden facade structures, using the scale of elements to a more proportionate human one.
Polina Nozdracheva's Equi Temple is a shining example of how architecture can be harmoniously integrated with nature and function. The design, which has been patented and copyrighted, is a testament to the designer's commitment to creating structures that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly.
